Description
The Rocket Appartamento TCA is built on the same basis as the original model, i.e. a machine with a heat exchanger, E61 grouphead, and vibration pump. However, the machine has received a number of improvements – some more visible than others.
TCA is shorthand for “temperature control adjustment” and means that the temperature in the boiler can be set to four different levels, in order to adjust the brewing temperature and steam pressure according to your own preferences. The temperature is regulated electronically and raises/lowers the steam pressure with 0.1 bar accuracy, between 0.9 and 1.2 bar. In an effort to maintain the clean, aesthetic look Rocket is known for there are no extra buttons or controls – instead the temperature is set using the main power switch and the brew lever.
The exterior of the machine has also been given a complete overhaul by Milanese designer Valerio Cometti. This includes a rounder shape, new knobs for steam and hot water, and a vertically placed logo on the back of the machine. The shape of the brew head is reminiscent of the bow of a ship.
However, the new design is not only easy on the eyes. The following technical improvements have also been made:
- One-piece base plate, which makes the whole construction much stronger
- More spacious drip tray with a better fit. The tray now has 40% more volume
- Angled, user-friendly portafilter
- Insulated boiler, which according to Rocket reduces electricity consumption by up to 30-35%
- Smart sensor for the cold water tank – you can finish the last extraction before the machine stops due to low water level
In conclusion, the Appartamento TCA is a very sensible option for those looking for a reliable, compact espresso machine with (in a home setting) unlimited steam capacity and a beautiful design.
