New standard features of Alex Duetto IV Plus are:

– PID with integrated shot timer
– Pump pressure adjustable without removing the outer casing
– Pump motor mounted above the pump, safer in case of a leak
– Drain plugs in the bottom of both boilers

Caffè Izzo is a coffee roastery from southern Italy that decided to build the dream espresso coffee machine of  their customers. The result was the Alex Duetto.

The main four things that has always set the Alex Duetto apart are:

• Dual boilers – one dedicated for making coffee and one for steam
• A very silent, professional rotary pump for adjustable and stable pressure
• A simple choice between built in water tank or direct water connection
• Electronic PID-controller for regulating brew- and steam boiler temperatures, temperature is easily adjusted with the press of a few buttons

In combination with the time proven E61 group head this has always made for a very potent high end espresso machine. While the machine has always been very durably built a number of improvements have been made over the years. The latest version include updates such as a more curved and sturdy body styling, more practical drip tray, smaller heater lights, ergonomic angled portafilters, cup warming tray with hand rails and so on (see video presentation for a full walk through of current features) .

The steam boiler can be turned on and off separately, turning it off when you do not need it can save quite a bit of energy. On the other hand, unlike many other dual boiler machines, the boilers on the Duetto can also be set to run in a mode where both heating elements can be activated simultaneously, instead of heating in an alternating pattern. While the standard mode is usually plenty for the average home user, the mode with both boilers constantly heating might be an advantage if you are going to crank out dozens of beverages with coffe and steamed milk in quick succession.

The Duetto can also be set up with a direct water connection, hoses for for connecting to both water and drain pipes are included.
